Welterweight, Terence Crawford, Hoping Upcoming Fight Claims Him as ‘The Best Welterweight in the World
Terence Crawford (37-0, 28KOs), a three-division world champion, is ready for a welterweight fight of a lifetime and has been presented with the opportunity to do so. Crawford will face Shawn Porter (31-3-1, 17KOs) on November 20th, 2022 at the Michelob Ultra Area in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Contrary to some fighters, Crawford and Porter share a friendship outside of the sport that is very much rooted in the love and admiration for the art of boxing. When opportunities were scarce and the chance to fight opponents was null, Crawford knew that his only option, if he wanted to continue on in his career, was to agree to this fight with Porter. This would present him the chance to continue competing on a professional level in an effort to earn the next big title.
The American boxer has a number of accolades under his belt including world champion status in three weight classes; one of which he still holds to this day, welterweight. Prior to being a welterweight, Crawford was the first champion at light-welterweight since 2004 when he battled Kostya Tszyu. Some other fighters he has finished are Jose Benavidez Jr., Amir Khan, Kell Brook, and Egidijus Kavaliauskas, also known as ‘Mean Machine’.
Porter is known to accept any challenge, so the news that he is facing Crawford comes as no surprise. If he wins this rumble, he will set a benchmark in the boxing world where future newcomers may truly be put to the test. Facing the 147-pound two-time champion, Porter in the ring will undoubtedly put Crawford’s skills to the test.
At first, Crawford and Porter knew that a fight between them would not only raise eyebrows but could put their friendship in jeopardy while giving the media a field day. When the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Crawford was a no-go, the only other option was Porter.
Crawford is now a three-division titlist, with victories in both junior lightweight and lightweight classes. His impressive resume of wins, including victories over Paul Malignaggi and Yordenis Ugas, has truly set him apart, and is now a top talent in the respective division.
Crawford is elated at the opportunity to solidify his ranking in the welterweight class and wants to continue on the path of success in the sector. He considered himself a ‘threat’ to his opponents so when he agreed to a megafight, it meant an opportunity to prove himself, yet again, a champion.
