Former IBF/WBC Welterweight Champion, Shawn Porter, Wants to Beat His Achievements With Chance to Battle Premier Boxing Champions
34-year-old Shawn Porter (31-3-1, 17KOs) is set to face three-division champion Terence Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) for a chance to continue his welterweight champion status. As many agree, the 12-round fight is truly a fight between two main ranks in the boxing world: Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), which represents Porter, and Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc., which Crawford has been affiliated and promoted by for almost a decade and a half.
Crawford is craving fights with fellow top-ranking welterweights, but that proves to be difficult through his current affiliation. His contract with Top Rank has a close-approaching expiry date which may come once he faces Porter in the coming battle. The deciding factor on whether or not the expiry date will be extended will be based on a win or lose.
Crawford, like many other boxers, wants to challenge himself in his capabilities and he would enjoy the opportunity to get in the ring with undefeated champ, Errol Spence Jr. (27-0, 21 KOs). Doing so would put his skills to the ultimate test while presenting an opportunity to make even more of a name for himself in the boxing world.
Porter and Crawford are a suited pair for a face-off since Porter graduated from junior welterweight, which had a max weight limit of 140 pounds, to welterweight, which has a maximum of 147 pounds.
“This one’s gonna be a biggie, as we all know”, states Matt Kenny, the VP of programming and ESPN. “We’re in for a real treat”, he says. The welterweight boxing match will surely be one to chat about as two friends battle to take center stage. Crawford has risen to the occasion with confidence and assurance and the November 20th fight at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay is one of the most anticipated of the year.
